- — Justify a coaching priority and objective from your own assessment
- — Adapt mid-session and review against the objective you set
The case study
Read the brief carefully. The next screens will ask you to work through it as the coach.
- RiderHannah, 34. Rode as a teenager, returned to riding 18 months ago. Rides once a week. Wants to do her first unaffiliated dressage test in the spring.
- HorseBracken, 12-year-old 15.3hh gelding. Experienced, honest, a little stiff on the right rein. Lightly fit. Recently had a saddle check.
- ConfidenceHannah is confident in walk and trot, tense in canter, and describes canter transitions as 'a scramble'.
- Current problemsCanter transitions on the right rein are late and unbalanced; Bracken falls in and Hannah's upper body tips forward as she asks.
- Rider positionReasonable alignment in trot. In the transition her lower leg slides back, she tips forward, and her hands drop and shorten the right rein.
- Horse behaviourWilling, no resistance, but hollows briefly into the right-rein canter and drifts in on the circle.
- EnvironmentOutdoor 20x40 arena, good surface, mid-morning, breezy. Jump wings stacked at C. One other rider expected to join in 15 minutes.
